Some games are based on intellect power, strategy and logic, but the majority of them include an element of chance with no knowledge and experience. There are many varieties of board games.

One of the most popular tabletop games among children, teens and adults all around the world is Activity. Everyone could show off his/her drawing, acting and verbal skills there. Initially the game was only in English, but now it is possible to find it translated in numerous languages. The quantity of contestant can vary from 2 to 16 players. Every completed task makes a player closer to the finish point. Sometimes player has to explain some words written on card by other words, or describe famous people, or act (pantomime) and paint phrase given on a card and the other members of the team have to find out what that should be and if they are right, the team could make a step forward. Recommendations for making lotto for English classes in kindergarten

August 16, 2009

For English lessons with children in kindergarten (see, for example, ) you will need a lotto with images of various animals, namely: squirrel, deer, bird, wolf, fox, owl, hedgehog, bear, hare, raccoon, cow, horse, pig, sheep, goat, rooster, hen, chick, duck, cat, dog, guinea pig (or rat), parrot, fish. In subsequent lessons, lotto can be “expanded” by adding new cards as you progress through a particular topic (“Family”, “Home”, “Toys”, etc.).

The cards, designed for English lessons, are larger than those in regular lotto. Depending on the age of the children and the amount of vocabulary they are learning, you can decide for yourself what the optimal number of pictures should be on each card (from 4 or more). You can arrange the pictures in one row (I used exactly these cards in my lessons) or in two rows. In my opinion, it is not advisable to have too many pictures on a card, so as not to drag out the game too much. You can always give the children, for example, two cards in one row.

So, buy a set of cardboard (white or colored - at your discretion). Each card will be equal in size to an A4 sheet of cardboard cut lengthwise (you can, of course, make them larger or smaller, but, in my opinion, this one is optimal). Now you need identical pictures of animals whose names you went through with the children. Where can I find such pictures? Once upon a time, I sat and drew them myself, or cut out silhouettes of animals from colored paper and pasted them onto cards, spending a lot of time on this. In principle, you can use this method. Another way is to use Internet sites that offer children's coloring books or just pictures. We type in a search engine, for example, “guinea pig, coloring book” or“hedgehog, picture (drawing)» , find the picture, reduce it to the desired size. If you have a color printer, great; if not, you can simply print out the coloring book and then color the picture manually. Calculate how many pictures you will need. For example, each card has 4 pictures, you are going to make 10 cards, which means you will need 40 pictures in total. The pictures are carefully cut out and pasted onto cardboard.

When sticking pictures, consider the following points:

  • the number of pictures depicting the same animal can be any, you can make, for example, 3 dogs, 5 cats, 6 guinea pigs, as long as the total number of pictures is 4 times more than cards (in our case, there should be 40 ).
  • Animal images should not be repeated on one card
  • It is desirable that there are no absolutely identical cards

After you prepare large cards and glue pictures with images of animals on them (separating them with a line), make 40 small cards from colored cardboard of such a size that each can completely cover the image of one animal. (Children will use small cards to cover the pictures on the large cards when they hear the name of the animal and find its image on their large card).

You will also need separate pictures depicting the same animals that are depicted on large lotto cards (one picture depicting each animal). Children will pull these pictures out of a special bag. They can be replaced partially or completely with toys.

Did you calculate everything, cut it out, glue it? The lotto for an English lesson in kindergarten is ready! In English class, give each child one (or two) large and four (or eight) small cards. The teacher (or the children themselves, one at a time)) pulls out pictures of animals, people, objects (or similar toys) from the bag. The presenter loudly names in English the object depicted in the picture, the children cover with small cards the pictures depicting the desired object, a person, an animal, if they have them on a large card. For more information about using lotto in English lessons, see .

I would like to note that this lotto may be useful for parents to independently study English words at home with their child. But why only English? Lotto can also be used to expand a child’s vocabulary in their native language. IfDo you know other interesting games that are suitable for English classes with kids, we will be glad and pleasantly surprised if you are talking about them. Good luck to you!

How to play educational lotto “English letters and words” with children

If the child does not know the English alphabet, then at first you simply gradually introduce the baby to letters and sounds, using cards with large letters. You study letters, name them and correctly pronounce the sounds that each letter represents. For the first time, 3-5 letters are enough, and so on every day.

Then you introduce your baby to the pictures and words that represent them. Only after this, proceed to playing lotto.

Lay out several cards with letters in front of the child and show him the pictures one by one; the child must guess correctly, match the pictures to the letters and cover his cards with them.

Continue this way until the child gets tired, then you can put the game aside and return to it the next day.

Bright and cheerful illustrations and colorful letters will definitely appeal to your child and he will be happy to learn English with the help of this educational lotto.

Good luck and interesting activities!
