Every year thousands of people from Russia go to different countries as tourists or to work. They can't go without knowing the language of the country they are going to. People are fond of traveling. They spend their holidays traveling. They travel to see other countries and continents, to learn a lot about people’s traditions, to enjoy picturesque places. It is interesting for them to discover new things, different ways of life, to meet different people, to try different food.

Those who live in the country like to find themselves in large cities with their shops, cinemas, crowds of people. City-dwellers usually like a quiet holiday by the sea or in the mountains with nothing to do but walking and bathing, lazying in the sun. Most travelers and holiday makers take a camera with them and take pictures of everything that interests them - beautiful views of waterfalls, forests, unusual plants and animals. These photos will remind them of the happy time of holiday.

These are many ways of traveling - by train, by plain, by ship, on foot. Everyone chooses his favorite one. My favorite way is traveling by plain. And not because it is very comfortable. It is exciting. I also like traveling by train. I've traveled this way a lot. When you are in the train you can see the beauty of nature.

I envy the tourists because I think that they study geography traveling and visiting different parts of the world. They can tell you many things which you didn’t know before.

They are interesting people from whom you can learn much new for yourself. Any kind of travel helps you to understand many things that you can never see or learn at home. Though you may read about them in books and newspapers.

As for me I’d like to have a coach tour to some foreign country. Coach tours are planned and I’ll have a chance to do a lot of sightseeings and have a good rest at the same time.

Environmental problems

The poisoning of the world's land, air, and water is the fastest-spreading disease of civilization. It probably produces fewer headlines than wars, earthquakes and floods, but it is potentially one of history's greatest dangers to human life on earth . If present trends continue for the next several decades, our planet will become uninhabitable.

Overpopulation, pollution and energy consumption have created such planet-wide problems as massive deforestation, ozone depletion, acid rains and the global warming that is believed to be coused by the greenhouse effect. The seas are in danger. They are filled with poison: industrial and nuclear waste, chemical fertilisers and pesticides. The Mediterranean is already nearly dead; the North Sea is following. The Aral Sea is on the brink of extinction. If nothing is done about it, one day nothing will be able to live in the seas.

Every ten minutes one kind of animal, plant or insect dies out for ever. If nothing is done about it, one million species that are alive today will have become extinct twenty years from now.

Air population is a very serious problem. In Cairo just breathing the air is life threatening- equivalent to smoking two packs of cigarettes a day. The same holds true for Mexico City and 600 cities of the former Soviet Union.Industrial enterprises emit tons of harmful substunces. These emissions have disastrous consequences for our planet. They are the main reason for the greenhouse effect and acid rains. An even greater environmental threat are nuclear power stations. We all know how tragic the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster are.

People are beginning to realize that environmenta problems are not somebody else"s. They join and support various international organosation and green parties. If governments wake up to what is happening- perhaps we"ll be able to avoid the disaster that threatens the natural world and all of us with it.

RUSSIN TRADITIOS.

Almost every nation and country has a reputation of some kind. The Englishmen are reputed to be cold, reserved, rather naughty easy-going and fond of sport. They are the nation of stay-at-homes. “There is no place like home,” they say. The English man’s home is his castle is a saying known all over the world. They prefer a small house built for one family, with a small garden are a fire in the center of the house. They like animals very much and follow the traditions concerning food and meals. We know much about English traditions and customs but now I’d like to say a few words about the traditions of my native land-Russia. First, about Russian people. To my mind, the main traits of their characters which differ them from other people are hospitality, their “open heart”, “golden hands”, wise Russian fairytales reflect this wisdom. Our people are hardworking, patient, never losing hope for a better life. The Russians are the talented nation. Russia gave the world beautiful names of Pushkin and Lermontov, Chaikovsky and Repin, thousands of names of world famous poets, writers, composers, scientists. All of them are the pride of the nation because they sand the beauty of our nature and people.

Besides these great names in literature and music, our country is famous for Russian traditional specific crafts its skilled craftsmen. Painted boxes of Palekh, colored shawls of Pavlov Posad, clay toys of Dymkovo, laces of Vologda are known all over the world.

The names of Gzhel and Khokhloma are considered to be the symbols of Russia as well as matryoshkas and samovars. The history of khokhloma goes back into the 17th century Producing of tableware-dishes, spoons, mugs was begun at that time in the villages of Suomino and Khokhloma in the Nizhniy Novgorod Province. On the banks of the great Russian river Volga. Many carpenters, painters have been working since then reviving traditions of old masters. The Khokhloma style is characterized by using plant elements in painting the tableware. The prevailing colors are black, yellow, golden, green and red. And nowadays this craft is sure to be saved, it will be developed and brought into the future by the new generation of painters.

The reviving of old crafts is connected with the reviving of the traditional arts of all peoples inhabiting our big country. There are 100 of them. They revive their culture, costumes, dances and language. It is the revival of our souls. Now we celebrate the forgotten holidays - Troisa, Maslenitsa, Easter. We again sing Russian folk songs and chastushki, dance Barinya and perform khorovods, ride in troikas. Traditional Russian cooking is world-famous for such dishes as okroshka, shi, pelment, kurnik, kvass. We begin to build and reconstruct churches. The example of it is the building of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. It is the symbol of reviving human feelings, national pride and patriotism.

TRADITIONS & CUSTOMS OF GREAT BRITIAN .

Every nation and every country has its own customs and traditions. In British traditions play more importaint part in the life of the people than in some other countries. Englishmen are proud of their traditions and carefully keep them up. It has been the law for about three hundred years that all the theaters are closed on Sundays no letters are delivered only a few Sunday papers are published. To this day English families prefer cotage houses with gardens to flats in a modern house with central heeting.English people like gardens.Sometimes the garden in front of the house is a little square covered with cement

painted green (in imitation of grass) and a box of flowers. In English houses the fire-place has always been the center of interest in a room. For many months of the year people like to sit round the fire and

watch the dancing flames.Fire places are decorated with woodworks, there is a painting or a mirror over it.Above the fire there is usually a shelf with a clock and some photographs. Holydays are especially rich in old traditions and are different in cotland,Wales and England.Christmas is a great english national holyday and in Scotland it is not kept at all execution by clerks in banks, all the shops and factories are working. But 6 days later on the New Year's Eve the

RUSSIAN TRADITIOS.

Almost every nation and country has a reputation of some kind. The English are supposed to be cool, reserved, quite naughty, easy going and sport loving. They are a nation of staycations. "There is no place like home," they say. The home of the English man - his castle says it is famous all over the world. They prefer a small house built for one family, with a small garden - a fire in the center of the house. They love animals very much and follow traditions regarding food and nutrition. We know a lot about English traditions and customs, but now I would like to say a few words about the traditions of my native Russian land. First, about Russian people. In my opinion, the main features of their characters that distinguish them from other people are hospitality, their “open heart,” “golden hands,” wise Russian fairytales reflect this wisdom. Our people are hardworking, patient, never giving up hope for a better life. Russians are a talented nation. Russia gave the world beautiful names of Pushkin and Lermontov, Chaikovsky and Perebulavka, thousands of names of world famous poets, authors, composers, scientists. All of them are the pride of the nation because they sand the beauty of our character (nature) and people.

Apart from these great names in literature and music, our country is famous for Russian traditional specific crafts by its skilled craftsmen. Dyed Palekh boxes, Pavlov Posad colored scarves, Dymkovo clay toys, Vologda laces are known all over the world.

The names Gzhel and Khokhloma are considered to be symbols of Russia as well as matryoshkas and samovars. The history of khokhloma goes back to the 17th century, producing table serving dishes, spoons, mugs were started at that time in the villages of Suomino and Khokhloma in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. On the banks of the great Russian river Volga. Many carpenters, painters have worked, since then restoring the traditions of the old owners (masters). The Khokhloma style is characterized by using plant elements in table setting painting. The predominant colors are black, yellow, gold, green and red. And currently this craft is sure to be saved, it will be developed and brought into the future by a new generation of painters.

The restoration of old crafts is associated with the restoration of the traditional arts of all peoples inhabiting our large country. There are 100 of them. They restore their culture, costumes, dances and language. This is the rebirth of our souls. Now we celebrate the forgotten holiday - Troisa, Maslenitsa, Easter. We again sing Russian folk songs and chastushki, dance Barinya and perform khorovods, trip in threes. Traditional Russian cuisine around the world is famous for such dishes as okroshka, shi, pelment, kurnik, kvass. We begin to build and restore churches. An example of this is the building of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. This is a symbol of the restoration of human feelings, national pride and patriotism.

I collect discs of my favorite groups and singers. I study carefully the information printed on discbooklets. I try to find everything about my favorite singers. Also I like to watch music programs on TV. I want to keep up with the news in the world of music.

Of course, I like to spend my spare time with my friends. We talk about all sorts of things (politics, teachers, girls). We discuss films, books, TV programmes. In fine weather we like to be in the open air. We find a nice place somewhere in the forest. We make a fire, bake potatoes and have a lot of fun. When the weather is bad, my friends come to my place. We have a good time together.

First of all i"d like to tell you about my school which i"ve just left. My school is one of the specialized schools in Moscow. It is famous for its high-quality education and strict discipline. To my mind, our school-lycium is very well equipped. It has a gym, a carteen, a library, a computer class and some labs(for example - chemistry lab or physics lab).

First two years in our lycium we had 7 or 8 lessons, but in 10th and 11th forms we had less lessons. What about our homework we usually had a lot to do and it took me several hours. I sometimes had to sit up to write a composition, to prepare a report, to traslate an article from English to Russian or to learn a poem by heart.

After classes we usually had some out-of-class activities.our social and cultural life was well-organized. For example, we had a choir and literature club.

At school we had classes in Russian, literature, mathematics, English, history and so on. My favorite subjects were English, History and Russian. On Russian we had a lot of fun situations and conversations; history, to my mind, is a very interesting subject; and what about English, we need learning this language to be able to read books, listen to the news, speak with English speaking people and so on.

Now my plans for the future. I must say that when you leave school you understand that the time to choose your future profession has come. It"s not an easy task to make the right choice of a job. People choose profession according to their own interests and abilities. As far as i have a computer at home I"ve decided to enter some mathemetic institute. It is called MSATU (Moscow State Aviation-Technological University). I"ll be studying there informatic and English. I think, today computer is very popular in our country and programmers are paid very much.

TRANSITION TO PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

Letter from the Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science

The Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science informs that new sets of sample tickets have been prepared for 20 subjects of the federal basic curriculum for taking an elective exam by graduates of grades XI (XII) of general education institutions of the Russian Federation.

New sets of exam cards have been developed for educational institutions that have made the transition to specialized training . They make it possible to conduct final certification of graduates of the XI (XII) classes of general education institutions, taking into account the level (basic or specialized) at which the subject was taught.

Educational institutions, who have not transferred to specialized training , we recommend sample exam papers for the oral final certification of graduates of the XI (XII) classes of general education institutions, published in the previous year in the journal “Bulletin of Education” (№ 5–6, 2005) and posted this year on the magazine’s website www.vestnik.edu.ru.

According to the Law of the Russian Federation “On Education”, the development of secondary (complete) general education programs ends with a mandatory final certification. State (final) certification of graduates of classes XI (XII) of general educational institutions of the Russian Federation is carried out on the basis of the Regulations on state (final) certification of graduates of classes IX and XI (XII) of general educational institutions of the Russian Federation (approved by order of the Ministry of Education of Russia dated December 3, 1999 No. 1075 as amended from March 16, 2001 No. 1022, from June 25, 2002 No. 2398, from January 21, 2003 No. 135).

The final certification of graduates of grades XI (XII) of general education institutions is carried out in the form of oral and written exams. The form of oral certification in all subjects may be different: a ticket exam, an interview, an essay defense, a comprehensive text analysis (in the Russian language).

The presented exam cards allow for final certification of graduates of the XI (XII) classes of general education institutions, taking into account the level at which the subject was taught (basic or specialized). Examination cards have been developed for 20 general education subjects:

Each subject exam kit contains at least 25 tickets, each ticket includes three questions (with the exception of the science kit, which offers two questions per ticket). Brief explanatory notes on the peculiarities of conducting an oral examination in the subject have been developed for exam papers in all subjects. They explain the fundamental difference between sets compiled taking into account the basic level of study of the subject and sets compiled taking into account the profile level of study of the subject, characterize the structure of the exam card as a whole, and comment on the differences in the first, second and third questions of the ticket. All explanatory notes indicate the approximate time allotted for preparing a graduate to answer, describe approaches to assessing a graduate’s answer, which are of a recommendatory nature, and provide explanations on the use of the proposed examination material when developing examination papers at the level of a general education institution.

Tickets for all proposed sets are approximate: a general education institution has the right to make changes to the examination material, taking into account the regional component, the features of the program on which the training was based; partially replace questions, supplement with other tasks, and also develop your own examination materials for conducting elective exams in oral form.

The procedure for examination, approval and storage of certification material for elective examinations is established by the authorized local government body.

Head V. BOLOTOV

FOREIGN LANGUAGES

The foreign language exam in grade XI is an elective exam and is conducted in two forms: in the form of a unified state exam (in English, German, French) and in the traditional form of an oral exam based on exam papers.

Sample exam papers for passing the exam in foreign languages by graduates of classes XI (XII) of general educational institutions of the Russian Federation are compiled taking into account the mandatory minimum content of basic general and secondary (complete) general education (orders of the Ministry of Education of Russia dated May 19, 1998 No. 1236 and dated June 30, 1999 No. 56), as well as state standards of basic general and secondary (complete) general education (order of the Ministry of Education of Russia dated March 5, 2004 No. 1089).

Taking into account the realities of the transition period, these sample tickets in terms of content and thematic are more focused on the mandatory minimums, and in terms of goal setting and testing of practical skills - on the federal component of the state educational standards of 2004. It should be especially noted that the proposed examination materials are not focused on any or a specific educational and methodological set/sets and are in this sense universal.

Examination cards are approximate in nature and can be used to develop examination materials in accordance with the characteristics of the educational program of a particular school. Changes can be made to the proposed material based on the characteristics of the program chosen by the teacher in the subject: partially replace the questions, supplement with other tasks, and also develop your own options.

The foreign language exam for a high school course aims to control the level of development of skills in such types of speech activity as reading and speaking; The objects of control are also the sociocultural knowledge and skills and lexical and grammatical skills of students. It is also recommended to conduct a final written test at the end of the quarter to control reading and writing, which may additionally include tasks of a lexical and grammatical nature.

The exam is conducted orally. Each ticket contains three tasks. One set of sample exam papers is compiled taking into account the basic level of study of the subject, the other - taking into account the profile level of study of the subject. The fundamental difference between the two sets lies in the higher level of complexity of the tasks and the higher level of requirements for the speech skills of graduates of the specialized school (which is reflected in the recommendations for assessing answers), as well as in the nature of the proposed texts. In the basic level tickets, two tasks are reproductive in nature and one task is productive. Profile level tickets are more focused on problem-based and productive speech and thinking activity; the range of problems discussed in the third task is somewhat wider, and the problems themselves require deeper understanding and more complex lexical and grammatical design.

In order to normalize the workload of graduates during the exam period and taking into account the fact that a foreign language exam is an elective exam, it is not recommended to significantly increase the number of exam papers in the set: there should be no less than 15 and no more than 25 (the optimal number is 20 ). When developing examination papers in foreign languages at the level of a general education institution, you should also pay attention to the fact that the tasks within each ticket do not duplicate each other in terms of subject content, but are thematically diverse. For example, if in ticket No. 1 of the basic level the second task is formulated “Tell about the role of sports in people’s lives,” and the third task is related to a discussion of the topic “Travel,” then the text for the first task should be based on some other, third topic within software requirements.

When selecting a text for the first assignment, you must be guided by the following requirements:

The selected passage should be characterized by completeness, external coherence and internal meaning;

The text must correspond to the genre specified in the assignment description;

The text should not be overloaded with informative elements: terms, proper names, digital data;

The linguistic complexity of the text must correspond to the level of preparation of the examinees (basic, specialized).

A BASIC LEVEL OF

First tasktests introductory reading skills (reading with understanding of the main content). The examinee is offered a semantically complete text (from journalistic or popular science literature) of up to 1200 characters. When discussing the text, the student has the right to use it. In preparing the answer, the student can use a bilingual dictionary. The examinee’s task is to briefly summarize the main content of the text and discuss it with the examiner. The examiner asks at least two questions that check whether the student has truly understood the main content of the text or is simply reproducing short passages from it.

Second tasktests the skills of monologue speech (monologue-reasoning): the ability to make a message containing the most important information on a given topic; reason about facts/events, giving examples and arguments. The wording of the task proposed in the ticket directs the student to a monologue-reasoning involving personal experience and expression of personal attitude.

Third tasktests dialogic speech skills. It is formulated in the form of a problematic question or an actual communicative task, which is discussed in a conversation between a teacher and a student within the framework of a topic defined by the current program. Examiners evaluate the examinee’s communication skills, performance of a communicative task, mastery of speech formulas, ability to maintain a conversation, respond to a partner’s statements and express one’s own opinion. The communicative task is personal in nature and takes into account the real social experience of a high school student. The examiner is expected to be willing to participate in dialogue, respond to the examinee’s statements, clarify information of interest, etc. An exchange of at least five replicas is required.

The examinee is given 30 minutes to prepare all three tasks; The survey takes 8–10 minutes.

PROFILE LEVEL

The ticket also contains three tasks. First task is comprehensive in nature and tests the skills of introductory reading (with the extraction of basic information) and monologue speech based on text (fiction, journalistic or popular science). The stimulus is an original text of up to 1500 characters on socio-cultural topics related to the country/countries of the language being studied. After reading the text, the examinee briefly outlines its main content and draws parallels with our country, talking about similar traditions, customs, holidays, achievements in sports, science, and culture. Examiners evaluate the ability to speak orally in connection with what has been read, briefly convey the content of information obtained from the text read, reason about facts/events, describe the features of life and culture of one’s own country and the country/countries of the language being studied. If it is necessary to clarify or clarify a student’s statement, the examiner asks questions, but questions are not a mandatory part of this task.

Second tasktests monologue speech skills and is based on project work* completed by students during the school year. Presentation of the results of design and research activities (including those focused on the chosen profile) allows the student to demonstrate the ability to present facts, express and argue their point of view, and draw conclusions. When preparing project work during the school year, students perform complex complex tasks: select information necessary for the purposes of the project from various sources; analyze, systematize and generalize it in accordance with the set goal and objectives; interpret it and present it logically, observing the culture of written foreign language speech. During the exam, students must be able to orally briefly outline the goals and objectives of the project, its main idea, problems raised in the work, the results of work on the project, justify the conclusions drawn and answer 2-3 questions from the commission on the content of the project.

1. Address the audience with a greeting.

2. Informing about the objectives of the project and the plan for the presentation.

3. Statement of the main content of the project or its most interesting results.

4. Main conclusions on the project and prospects for work on this topic for other schoolchildren.

5. Expressing words of gratitude to the audience and inviting them to discuss the project.

Third taskto control dialogical speech skills is formulated in the form of a problematic question or an actual communicative task, which is discussed in a conversation between a teacher and a student within the framework of a topic defined by the current program. Examiners evaluate the examinee’s communication skills, performance of a communicative task, mastery of speech formulas, ability to initiate a conversation, maintain it, express one’s attitude to a partner’s statements and one’s own opinion. The communicative task is personal in nature and takes into account the real social experience of a high school student. The examiner is expected to be willing to participate in dialogue, respond to the examinee’s statements, clarify information of interest, etc. An exchange of at least seven remarks is required.

The examinee is given 30 minutes to prepare all three tasks; The survey takes 10–15 minutes.

The differences between the requirements at the basic and specialized levels are also reflected in the recommendations for assessing the graduate’s response.

The overall exam mark is the sum of three marks for completing individual tasks and is their arithmetic average, rounded according to general rules (i.e. 3, 5 and above gives 4 points; 4, 5 and above gives 5 points).

When assessing individual tasks, it is recommended to be guided by the following schemes, which are not exhaustive and do not describe all possible cases, but provide some general guidelines.

* Polat E.S. Project method in foreign language lessons // Foreign languages at school. – 2000. – No. 2–3.

Are you going to take the final exam in English this year? So that you don’t worry in vain and feel confident during the test itself, will tell you about the structure of the exam, where to find English language tickets, and give useful tips on how to behave in the presence of the commission.

Briefly about the exam

The test takes place orally. Its purpose is to test the English communication skills that you acquired while studying at school. It is better to prepare for the exam in advance: English language tickets can be bought in bookstores or ordered on the OZ.by website. The audio supplement for the tickets can be downloaded from the Aversev publishing house website. Four people are invited to the auditorium where the exam is taking place. If a student finds it difficult to answer a ticket, he can retighten it. In this case, does the mark decrease? This issue is decided by the commission.

Remember: the English exam begins from the moment you enter the office. Crossed the threshold— forget the Russian language, imagine yourself as a native Englishman. Greet those present: “Good morning!” No “Hello!” and “Hi!” Another important point: the exam card in English sounds like “examination card”, not “ticket”. And don’t forget to say your ticket number: “My examination card is number five” or “The number of my examination card is number five.”

The English language exam consists of three stages

You have to go through a listening test, a conversation based on the text you read and on the proposed topic. The sequence of stages is determined by the commission. Each block of tasks is assessed separately, the final mark is displayed as the arithmetic average.

Conversation based on the text read

Based on the ticket number you draw, the commission offers a text (popular science, journalistic or fiction). You are given approximately 20 minutes to read and comprehend it, so be careful. Re-read the text several times, pay attention to the explanations (if any), ask yourself if you understood everything. If you see an unfamiliar word, try to determine its meaning from the context.

When you go to answer, a piece of paper with the text will be in front of your eyes.— look at the structure of sentences and individual words, but don’t forget to take your eyes off what you’re writing. The commission may ask what the text is about, what its main idea is, and ask clarifying questions.

If you don’t understand a question or a single word, ask again. Use the following expressions: “Could you repeat the question / that, please?”, “Could you say it once again, please?”, “I didn’t understand / get it.” It only takes a second to figure out the answer—don’t get overwhelmed! The phrases “May I have a minute”, “Let me think” will help teachers understand that you are gathering your thoughts. Give detailed answers based on the content of what you read. But don’t sit with your head buried in the text, this will make a bad impression on the commission.

Listening

Before you start listening to the recording, you receive a sheet with questions that you will then answer to the commission. The audio recording lasts one and a half minutes and is a fragment of a radio broadcast, dialogue, story or interview. 10 minutes are allotted for preparation. Proper names and words that are difficult to recognize by ear are given in printed form.

Listen carefully to the text twice: the first time, understand the essence of the text, the second time, find answers to the questions. In order not to waste time on verbatim recording, make notes on which you can give a detailed answer.

Conversation on the proposed topic

You don't prepare in advance for the speaking part of the English exam. At this stage, the ability to express one’s point of view and maintain a conversation is tested.

Do not use words whose meaning or pronunciation you are not sure of. Replace them with synonyms or rearrange the phrase. Try hard talk casually, smile. Listen carefully to the teachers’ questions, ask again when you don’t understand, answer in detailed sentences.

At the end of the exam, thank the committee for their attention and say goodbye: “Thank you for your attention”, “Thank you for taking time”, “See you!”, “Bye!”, “Have a nice day!”. Politeness will work in your favor! Practice in English lessons so that when you take the exam you will feel like a fish in water. And if you need professional help to improve your English level, .

If the material was useful to you, don’t forget to “like” it on our social networks

My Friend

I have a lot of friends. Most of them are my former schoolmates. But my bosom friend is Lena. She is 16. Lena isn't very tall, but she is pretty in her own way.

She has red curly hair and a turn-up nose. Lena wears spectacles and when spring comes there are plenty of freckles on her cheeks, forehead and nose. But all that doesn't make her plain or ugly. I like Lena because she is well-bred, jolly and kind.

She does well at school though she has an unbreakable rule: never to study at night no matter how many written reviews are coming in the morning. She is also fond of reading plain books, and Lena sometimes thinks that one book isn't enough to read, she has two O r three books going at once. My friend has a lot of books at home, and she buys them wherever she goes.

Lena goes in for sports and she is a member of our school basket-ball team. She is terribly quick and strong.

It"s a pleasure to watch her playing basket-ball: while others are hopping about in the air she always gets under their feet and grabs the ball. I don"t like people who are bored at everything and who never make the slightest effort to be pleasant. That's why my friend is Lena, the most amusing person in the world. She thinks everything is funny - even flunking an exam.

Lena is a sunny soul by nature and always takes the slightest excuse to be amused. My friend has an imagination and her own style. Usually she writes nice compositions and once even won short-story contest that our school wallpaper holds every year.

Lena and me are good friends. We help each other a lot and try not to quarrel. But when sometimes it comes to quarrelling we try to make it up at once.

The native speakers of English live in Great Britain, the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand. English is one of the official languages of the United Nations Organization and other political organizations.

My English

Many people think that it is enough to know one language, but scientists think it is too little. The world is constantly changing, borders between countries and states are opening, and each of us can visit any country we like. This is one of the arguments in favor of studying foreign languages. In addition, the study of languages develops your attention and memory, broadens your mind, and you feel more educated.

I don"t think I am a good language learner because I am lazy but I like English very much. Of course, it is really great to find out about English people, cities and events. At our lessons we read interesting books, translate from English into Russian, learn new words. We speak about interesting people.

I understand that English teaches me to think, to speak, it helps me to find friends, but learning English is very difficult for me and takes me so much time and patience. Our English teacher is very good and kind. It is awful for me to learn English poems and songs by heart, of course, but I try. I think that English will help me in my future profession.

Introducing Myself

There is a saying that if you want something to be done well, do it yourself. So, I am following this wise saying and would like to introduce myself.

My first name is Sergey, my family name is Kravenko and my second name is Yurievich.

But in the beginning, I would like to represent my family and parents. Actually my family isn't large. My family consists of my father, mother, sister and cat Boris.

My father's name is Yuri. He is 41 years old, but he looks much younger. He is a businessman. My dad is a well-educated and well-read person; he has experiences in many fields. That is why it is always interesting to communicate with him, he usually tells many exciting stories, of course, if he has free time.

And my mother is 37. Her name is Natalia. She is a good-looking, blond woman. She has large green eyes. I admire her character. She is an optimist; she is full of energy and enthusiasm. I really adore her sense of humour. She is a housewife. It takes her much time and power to take care of our home. But I can assure, she copes with her job very well. Besides, both my farther and I help her with the housework. For example, I wash dishes, plates, sometimes go shopping and so on.

Now, I think, it is time to speak about myself. My name is Sergey, but my friends call me Seriy. I am 15.

I am tall and not bad built. I have an oval face and large green eyes. Speaking about my character, I can say that I"m friendly, kind, generous and honest. I do not like falsehood. I have my own likes and dislikes. I am modest and sometimes shy, but do not advice someone tricking or kidding me .But in spite of all these characters, I can keep secrets; I never let my friends down. My Friend

My best friends name "s Misha. We made friends a few years ago. We are of the same age. We live in the same block of flats, so we see each other almost every day.

Misha is a tall slender boy. He has got dark hair, large dark eyes, a straight nose, and thin lips. He wears spectacles. Misha is a nice guy. He is very honest and just, understanding and kind.

I trust him a lot, and I"m sure that I can rely on him in any situation. He never lets people down. Misha is only 16 but he isvery responsible - he finishes whatever he starts. He"s got only one shortcoming. He is a bit stubborn; nevertheless he is pleasant to deal with.

Misha"s an only child and his parents love him very much. His father is a lawyer. He is the most brilliant man I"ve ever met. He knows everything there is to know about the law. His mother is a music teacher. No wonder Michael is so talented. He"s got a very good ear for music. He likes jazz and plays the piano very well.

We spend a lot of time together. We often watch video or listen to music. Sometimes we go to the theater, or walk around the center of the city, visiting small cafes, museums, art galleries, and shops.

We talk for hours about all sorts of things (politics, love, teachers, and girls). We discuss films, television programs, books.

I never quarrel with Misha. But if there is some misunderstanding between us we try to make peace as soon as possible. What I like best about him is that he is always willing to help and share his knowledge, thoughts, and feelings. I respect him for his fairness, strong will, intellect, and modesty.

I miss Misha when we don"t see each other for a long time. Without him I would feel lonely and uncomfortable. Our friendship helps me feel strong and sure of myself.

About Myself

It is both pleasant and a bit difficult to speak about myself. It is pleasant because every person enjoys speaking about his or her interests, likes or dislikes. But at the same time it is difficult because to study a person, especially yourself, it is a great journey, not a little walk.

Speaking about my character I"d like first of all to define what character is. These are some qualities that make a person different from others. People often say about me that I am not like others. I don"t think that I am something special. When candles are out all cats are grey. But of course if you come closer and turn on the light you can see that some features are typical to me.

But to cut the long story short I think I am a good humoured, very responsible, hard working and emotional person. I like creativity and appreciate this trait in others. I don"t like to he and I feel when others do. I try not to be late and I hate when others don"t come on time. I prefer to associate with clever and polite people. It is very annoying when somebody whom I trust turns out to be unreliable.

But I try to treat other people so as I want them to treat me. I see the man whom I am looking for also as a person with a strong and sound body and mind. The person, who is interesting to talk to, whom I can trust and rely on.

As for my interests I am fond of psychology in the sphere of dealing with people and the questions of how to form your thoughts in the most favorable way. I adore traveling, seeing other people, their traditions, customs, to get acquainted with their culture, going sightseeing. Besides I like different kinds of music, I like music with rhythm you can dance to.

My Daily Routine

As a rule, I get up at half past six. I put on my dressing-gown, go into the bathroom and turn on the bath taps. Good health is better than wealth, so I do my morning exercises. I get breakfast at seven-thirty and listen to the news over the radio.

I like to begin the day well, so my breakfast is always a good one. For breakfast I usually have hard-boiled eggs or an omelette , bread and butter, tea or coffee; I read my newspaper with my last cup of coffee before I leave home.

Then, I say "Good-bye" to my mother, take my school-bag and go to school. I don"t live far from my school, so it doesn"t take me long to get there. The lessons start at half past eight. Each lesson lasts for 45 minutes. The classes are over at two o"clock.

I come back home, have dinner, wash up and go shopping. I buy foodstuffs for the family. Coming back I begin to clean the house and get the vegetables ready for supper. We have supper at seven. I do my homework for the next day. It usually takes me several hours to prepare well for the lessons.

In the evening, I always try to spend at least an hour at the piano. As a rule my parents and I sit and talk, watch a film on TV, read newspapers and magazines. Sometimes, we go to the cinema or to the theatre. Once or twice a month, I visit exhibitions in my home town.
