Almira with a small letter in English. English letters and their transcription

These days it is the most common. It is spoken in all countries, especially in those frequently visited by tourists. Wherever you go, in any corner of the Earth, you can easily find a person who, speaking English, can show you how to get somewhere and even give some practical advice regarding local rules and regulations.

For this reason, the study of this subject begins at school. From the first grade, a little person prepares for adult life, and thanks to language lessons, for communication - free and interesting, without any barriers, the main of which, of course, is language.

Where does learning a language begin? Of course, from his alphabet. One of the most curious representatives of the English alphabet is the letter “H”. She is eighth in order. And what is noteworthy is that the sound of this letter is similar to the surrounding “ji” and “jay”.

In order to have a complete understanding of it, you need to know the following:

  • How is the letter "H" written?
  • How to pronounce it(by itself and, of course, in words).

Unlike the Russian language, some have one name, but the words are read completely differently. Here, for example, is the letter “G”. When reading, its seventh letter is pronounced as “ji”. However, in the words “give” (give), “garden” (garden) it is read exactly like the Russian “g”.

Letter h - how to spell it?

The sound of this letter is similar to the Russian “x”. In terms of its spelling, the capital “eych” is identical to the Russian “en”: both letters are written like “N” in exactly the same way. The lowercase one looks like the uppercase “pe”, but with an elongated “tail” (the English “h” really looks like a “p”).

The writing of this letter begins from the end of the “tail”:

  • First, they put a period, as if they are going to write “p”.
  • instead, a loop is drawn (the line begins to move to the right and, leaving a rounded mark at the top of the line, descends to its very bottom so that the starting point along with a short segment remains on the left side);
  • the last stage is writing the usual Russian “p”.

The process overall is quite simple. At first, of course, you can get confused in all the “loops” and transitions to native letters. But with a little practice, even a clumsy first-grader will quickly cope with “hey”, writing it out confidently.

How to pronounce the letter eh?

The letter "h" is one of the consonants of the English language. It is precisely in sound that it corresponds to the Russian “x”, with the difference that its sound is lighter, airier (it is classified as a voiceless consonant).

There are specific rules that explain when and where the sound “ah” occurs, as well as what exactly is the correct pronunciation.

  • This letter is written exclusively before vowels. The tongue should be in the same position as at rest. The lips are somewhat open, relaxed, but not too wide.
  • The desired sound is formed in the gap between the vocal cords. The air, passing from the lungs outward, creates friction and produces the same sound similar to “x”. The ligaments, however, do not vibrate.
  • It is necessary to take into account that the Russian analogue of the sound of the letter “eych” is excessively noisy. In order to avoid making a serious mistake when pronouncing an English word, you need to relax the top of your throat and make the air push aspirated and less intense.
  • An exception is the letter “eych”, located between two vowels. In this case, its sound will be more sonorous and expressive.

It has several spelling variations, the technique depending on the font (printed/handwritten) and character type (uppercase/lowercase).

Writing technique

To write the letter "G", it is preferable to take a sheet of lined paper so that you can see the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters.

And here is the alphabet with uppercase and lowercase letters. Try the following activity with your child:

  1. look at the picture next to the letter and say the word in Russian,
  2. find the corresponding English word in the Russian-English dictionary,

  5. Work slowly with every letter: First say it several times with different intonations, pitch of voice, etc., then say the word written next to it. Then you can take 2 letters (previously cut into separate cards) and show them to the child - try to give him the opportunity to show the correct letter from the 2 you named.
  6. If your child is already 5 years old, you can master not only capital letters, but also capital letters. You need to explain to the baby that each letter has its own little brother, who is smaller in height and sometimes different from the older one (you can see them in the picture below). On the printed cards you can draw the younger brothers next to the older brothers - all the kids should like this!

Poems

Games and tasks

I can offer you at least 10 more entertaining games and tasks to remember the letters of the English alphabet that are new to your child and their sequence ( about learning through games for children, also read). These games can be played as one-on-one with the child, and organize them for a group of children.

  • Learning with a ball

There can be many different variations of ball games for children. For example, you can throw a ball to each other and take turns saying the next letter. Or, for example, throw a ball against a wall and call it with each hit.

  • Draw a letter
  • Guessing cards

Try this option: you show your baby a picture of an apple - and he calls you “a” - apple. Or you show a kitten, and he calls you “c” - cat. Of course, this is more of a memory game and is suitable for more conscious children. But for repeating what you have learned, it is ideal like no other.

  • Alphabet train

The goal of this easy task game is to build a train from a pile of cards with English letters, each carriage of which must stand in its place. Only then will he go!

  • Stop song

The task here is to listen carefully to the alphabet song, and when the recording stops (the adult pauses at any point in the song), the children must repeat the last letter they heard and show the card with it.

  • Neighbours

From a pile of cards with letters turned upside down, the child chooses any one. The task is to remember the neighboring letter of the one that is in the child’s hands. In this case, you can call the previous letter or the next one. Any answer will be correct.

  • Guess it quickly

The goal of the game is to guess as quickly as possible what letter the adult is writing (who slowly and slowly writes a large English letter on a board or piece of paper in parts).

  • Add a dance to the song

One of my students was wildly restless. And in order to learn everything, we had to come up with a real dance with her, where for each letter we made a new movement, reminiscent of its shape. It’s amazing and incredibly strange, I tell you, but we managed to master it.

  • Connectors by points

This interesting and favorite activity for all children will help them quickly remember not only the letters of the English alphabet, but also their sequence. Here are 4 such pictures that you can download, print and use.

  • Letter - picture

Another exciting activity that will require children to know words (rather, it will be an association of a letter with a picture) beginning with certain letters of the alphabet. This requires preliminary preparation and work with pictures and words. I found these 6 printable pictures on the Preschool website (kindereducation.com). We connect the letters with the necessary pictures, and then color them for fun.

Don't try to do everything by force. From my experience working with children, I know that if you don’t interest them, but force them to remember something, there will be absolutely no effect. The baby will only hate the language, and then it will be even more difficult for you and him ( Where to start teaching your child English).

Also, don't try to memorize without the help of a song, video or photo. The child will not even begin to turn on his “memory” processes. These words should burn red in your mind when it comes to learning: HE SHOULD BE INTERESTED!

And lastly, he must at least somehow understand why this is necessary. Yes, it’s difficult to explain to a little person of 3-5 years old why he needs to learn any other sounds if everyone speaks the ones he already knows. So come up with some kind of fairy tale ( you can use), or watch a cartoon with him where individual words are spoken in a foreign language. This may arouse in him a desire to learn them himself.

And finally...

Of course, all children are different, and not all methods of work are suitable for everyone. Therefore, I can immediately advise looking for the right path to your baby. He will love English if you show it to him in the right light.

And remember, my dears, that I regularly share tips on how to help you and your children learn a language effectively. Subscribe to my blog newsletter and follow the news. It will be even more interesting soon.

The vowels include the letters A, E, I, O, U;
for consonants - B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, V, W, X, Y, Z.

Note: The letter Y is also sometimes treated as a vowel.

The history of the English alphabet is very interesting. English writing appeared already in the 5th century AD. Moreover, initially special Anglo-Saxon runes were used for recording, which were not easy to write. Due to the arrival of Christian missionaries from the 7th century, the runes were gradually replaced by Latin letters. Also, everyone knows the special pronunciation of English letters, which requires special transcription symbols.
For beginners, the English alphabet with translation into Russian will be very useful.

Get to know the English alphabet better and listen to the pronunciation of each letter.

If you are starting to learn English, start with the alphabet, because letters “live” in it, without which it is impossible to learn to read and write.

Interesting facts about the English alphabet

The basis of the modern English alphabet is the Latin alphabet, but the sound of English letters is significantly different from the original Latin ones. In addition, the alphabet consists of 26 letters, and the language itself has 44 sounds (according to some studies, up to 49). It means that one letter can express several sounds, and vice versa - one sound can be expressed in writing in different ways. That is, we can talk about the pronunciation of a letter only in a specific word.

Nevertheless, each letter has its own name, which is what we hear in the alphabet.

Why do you still need to know the alphabet by heart?

The alphabet is a very important element of language learning and it must be memorized so that it “flies off the teeth.” Firstly, this will significantly facilitate the process of learning the language - reading, working with dictionaries, pronunciation. In the future, you will receive advantages in oral communication, because the British, like Americans, are very fond of abbreviations and most of them are pronounced by letter. Knowing the alphabet and popular abbreviations, you won’t be confused when you hear: L-A (LA), DC (DC), FBI (FBI), CIA (CIA) or NWI (NYPD). If you have to work with lists or tables, then it will be much easier for you to find the text you need, since tables and lists are most often sorted alphabetically.

While talking on the phone you can often hear: Can you spell your name, please?, which means something like this: “I can’t understand your foreign name, please spell it.”

A few words about how to learn the alphabet. Each letter must be known “by sight”, but the letters of the alphabet cannot be taught separately, it is much easier to learn them in a “legalized sequence”, the alphabet must flow like a song, the letters must be connected and inseparable like train cars.
