Lincoln Memorial. located on the Esplanade in downtown Washington. It was built in honor of the sixteenth US President Abraham Lincoln. His presidency occurred during the Civil War (1861-1865). The memorial, erected from 1914 to 1922, symbolizes Lincoln's belief that all people should be free. Compositionally, the building symbolizes the Union. There are 36 columns along its perimeter - that’s how many states united at the time of Lincoln’s death. The names of 48 states (that’s how many there were by 1922, when the memorial was completed) are carved along the outer wall of the building. A plaque with the names of the last two states to join - Alaska and Hawaii - is located on the approaches to the memorial. In the memorial premises there is a statue of Lincoln: the seated president faces the Washington Memorial and the Capitol. The Lincoln statue is 19 feet (5.79 m) tall and weighs 175 tons. The room also contains two huge stone slabs: one engraved with the text of Lincoln's second inaugural address, and the other with his Gettysburg Address. The two wall paintings allegorically represent the principles of freedom, justice, unity, fraternity and charity.

Located between First, Second and Independence Avenue SI. The building was constructed from 1971-1976 and served as the official memorial to President James Madison. The Madison Building was home to the Mary Pickford Theater, the Library of Congress's "film and television reading room." The White house
The White House is the official residence of the President of the United States, located in Washington, DC at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The White House has been the official residence of all US Presidents except George Washington, who served from 1789 to 1797. At the time of the completion of the White House in 1800, John Adams was the President of the country. In August 1814, the White House was burned by the British, after which it was reconstructed and restored.

Lincoln Memorial
In memory of the 16th President of the United States, it took eight years to build and was completely completed by 1922. Externally, the memorial resembles a classical Greek temple with a colonnade. Many details in it are filled with deep symbolic meaning - for example, the memorial is surrounded by 36 columns - exactly the same number of states that were united before the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
