Blood on the Snow is one of the most interesting tasks in the game Skyrim, in which you will need to investigate massacres in the city of Windhelm. The peculiarity of this task is that in order to find the killer you will have to perform a thorough investigation, find all the evidence and, most importantly, use logical thinking.

If you make a mistake, you can blame the wrong person and the mission will be completed. Therefore, you should correctly evaluate every decision and evidence, without missing anything suspicious.

But if you want a simpler solution, then in this article we will present the whole process of passing blood on the snow Skyrim.

Receiving a task

Already at the first stage of receiving a task, you may encounter some problems. The fact is that older versions of the game have a bug in which you simply cannot take the task, and the body continues to lie on the street.

To correct this situation, you need to visit Windhelm more than three times, for this you can use fast travel back and forth.

After this, go to the left side of the city at night, in particular to the cemetery. The body of a woman will lie on one of the graves, and three local residents and a guard will stand next to her.

Approach the guard and ask what happened here. During the conversation, the guard will tell you that this girl’s name is Susanna and this is the third brutal murder in recent times.

Interviewing witnesses and obtaining permission to investigate

At the request of the guard, you need to interview three possible witnesses who are standing next to the body, this is what they will answer you:

1. The old woman Helgird will tell you that the killer did not even take her wallet, which means that his goal was not money.

2. Calixto Corrium will tell you that he saw someone running away from the murder scene, but, unfortunately, he did not see him.

3. Silda the Invisible practically did not notice anything, she only heard the screams of the victim.

After this, talk to the guard again and ask him to take full charge of this investigation. In response, the guard will grin and say that if the manager allows you, then you can begin your search for the killer.

The steward is located in the royal palace of Windhelm, to know exactly which room he is in, mark the task as the main one.

Having found the manager of Yorleif, talk to him and ask him to take over the investigations.

The manager will gladly accept help and say that the local guards will fully cooperate with you.

Beginning of a full investigation

Now you can start searching for clues, but be aware that most markers lead to false witnesses and places. Therefore, to catch the real killer you must do the following:

1. Return to the crime scene and tell the guard that the manager has given permission to participate in the search for the killer. The guard will agree and say that the murdered girl was taken to the hall of the dead, where Helgird is preparing the body before burial. The guard will also notice that there is a trail of blood from the murder scene, leading to residential areas of the city.

2. Go to the hall of the dead and ask Helgird about the murdered woman, and also find out if she has any suspicions. Despite the old woman’s strange jokes, Helgird will tell you that the girl’s lacerations may have been caused by ancient embalming knives.

3. Having found out everything from Helgird, return to the place of the murder and find the bloody trail, following which you will come to the abandoned house of Kjerim. By the way, you can get this house as a reward for joining the Stormcloaks, and in some cases quest Blood on the Snow can start from here.

To get into the house, you can use master keys to pick the lock (Master level) or simply ask the mother of the previous owner, Tore, for the key.

4. When you go inside the house, you will find many bloody marks on the floor and walls, as well as a chest that you should check. In the chest you will find a butcher's diary, as well as several leaflets "The Butcher is on the loose!". The diary will say that the killer has already tried to kill Susanna, but was unsuccessful.

Also, after reading the last pages, you will understand that the killer’s goal is to discover ancient magic - necromancy. After this, go into another room of the house, where there will be two cabinets and a strange amulet that you must take.

5. After searching the house, return to the manager and show him the amulet. In response, the manager will say that information on this amulet will be provided to you by Calixto Corrium in the Museum of Curiosities (by the way, you saw and interviewed him at the scene of the murder).

6. Wait until the day and visit the Museum of Curiosities, there you will meet Calixto, who will tell you all about this amulet. According to Calixto, such an amulet was worn by the ancient court magicians of Windhelm and that for this rarity he will pay you 500 gold. Be sure to sell the amulet, since in the future you will be able to pick it up, but with open magical properties.

7. Your next target will be Viola Giordano, who you can find on the streets of the city. During the conversation with her, you will both come to the conclusion that all the evidence falls on the court magician Wunfert, and this is where the fun begins. You can blame the court magician for everything if you talk to the steward first. But in fact, he is not the killer, and to find out who, you first need to approach the court magician and tell him about your suspicions. The magician will immediately deny his involvement and predict that the necromancer will commit another murder in the coming night.

8. After this, go to the market square (where the blacksmith is located), and wait until nightfall. Next, patrol the streets (in particular the market) until you hear screams and requests for help. At this moment, the main thing is to have time to notice the killer of the necromancer, who will turn out to be Calixto Corrium, the one who constantly flashed near you and was in full view of everyone. After killing Calixto, take the amulet and all the items from him. To complete the task, go to the manager and tell him who the real killer is.

How the quest starts

This quest starts a counter that starts at the beginning of the game, increasing each time you visit the city of Windhelm or its surrounding areas. After the fourth visit the quest "Blood on the Snow" will be available, however, two more conditions must be met:

The easiest way to trigger this quest is to simply walk between Windhelm - Stables and the Brandy Mug Farm two or three times, and then enter the city of Windhelm between 19:00 pm and 07:00 am. If there is no scene in the cemetery, then it is unlikely that you will be able to trigger this quest at all.

Note: You can always find out whether all the conditions for starting the quest have been met; to do this, you can simply check the lock of the front door Hjerim's house, if a “key is not required” to open the lock and the lock becomes ordinary, then the quest has become available.

If Towa and Arivania are alive and the quest has not yet been activated (since the counter is less than four), then you can previously receive the key from Hjerim and activate this quest by opening "Hjerim" using the key and reading one of the leaflets "The Butcher is on the loose!".   • There is an unpleasant bug with buying a house in Windhelm. Moreover, it crawls out in different ways. As a rule, after completing a series of quests to seize power by the Nords/Imperials. Here is the solution to the problem. Many will think it’s not entirely fair, BUT in my case, for example, there’s no other way to get a house.

1. We go to Windhelm to see the manager. Provided that the quest to buy a house has been accepted

2. Open the console and write: “completequest ms11”, then immediately “completequest ms11b”. Both teams complete 2 stages of the house-related quest "Blood on the Snow"

3. Write in the console: “setstage 000A7B33 10”. A house is being purchased (in inventory there must be a purchase amount of 12,000)

4. We talk to the manager about the situation at home: “Clean up (500 gold).” Don't buy anything else.

5. Let's go into the house. This is where the most tedious part begins - we begin to “manually” clean the house of cobwebs, leftover furniture, and traces of the crime. Cleaning proceeds as follows:

In order not to accidentally remove part of the house (wall, ceiling, beam), be sure to look at the ID. The ID of the junk associated with the house ALWAYS starts with "000df***" where *** is any other characters.

To see the changes in the house (what exactly was removed), you need to leave/enter the house. I'll tell you quite interestingly.

a) Open the console

b) Click on the item to delete (its ID will appear in the center of the console)

c) Write “markfordelete” in the console and press Enter

6. After cleaning, we go to the manager and buy all the other furniture. Everything will appear, but the lighting in the house and the atmosphere will remain tense.

If you have already talked with Susanna the Vicious, you will not be able to start the quest (sometimes you can start even after the conversation. It is unknown what caused the bug).
Occurs at the very early stage of the quest. After talking with Yorleif about the authority to investigate a series of crimes, this quest item in the journal will still remain active and will continue to loom on the map. If you notice such a bug, then simply ignore the landmark on the map and this active item in the journal and continue to complete the subsequent parts of the quest.
You will not be able to start a dialogue with Viola Giordano if you do not have at least one leaflet in your inventory about the return of the Butcher. Therefore, you will not be able to complete the quest.
If you don't sell Calixto's strange amulet, you won't be able to throw it out of your inventory. Solution: sell it to Calixto after talking with Viola Giordano. After killing "The Butcher", it will become a unique Necromancer Amulet and not a quest Amulet (that is, it will be possible to sell it). To remove the Strange Amulet from your inventory, you need to dial the code player.removeitem 000d2328 1, to add the Necromancer Amulet to your inventory, dial player.additem 000c891d 1.
A rare bug, but after you are sent to talk to Viola, the quest will fail and she will disappear. Loading an ancient save helps (who needs it), or simply enter setstage ms11 100 into the console and go to the magician.
This quest is also known for the fact that it may not start at all. This can happen for three reasons (if you did everything as described above, that is, you were in Windhelm four times and so on, then there are three reasons left): firstly, if you killed someone in Windhelm, the quest will never start ; secondly, if you finished the civil war for the Empire, the quest will not start, even less so (fixed in the latest patch); thirdly, the quest may not start just like that, simply because of bugs in the game. Without this quest, you cannot furnish a house in Windhelm (you can buy it). The solution is only using the console: stand at the scene of the murder and type startquest ms11, this command begins this quest, completely launching the script (that is, the guard and onlookers immediately appear) or one by one type the codes completequest ms11, completequest ms11b, df495.disable to remove all kinds of garbage like cobwebs, then enter setstage 000A7B33 10. The quest will already be completed, you will already have the key to the house and the house itself will have already been bought (if you had money), all that remains is to furnish it. To remove blood and corpses, you need to order cleaning from the manager.
However, there is a way out when playing as the Empire. Go to the palace, talk to the new jarl, he will notify you about the possibility of buying a house, then go to the manager and buy the house, then you should go to Kjerim's house, this is where the quest should begin.
When purchasing furnishings, cleaning must be ordered very first, regardless of the method of receiving the house, otherwise you will enjoy cobwebs and blood in the background of the new interior.
If for some reason you completed the quest using the console, then the Butcher will remain alive, and moreover, he will become immortal. He will sit in his house, which will be closed all day, inaccessible for dialogue. If you break in on him, he will call the guards. The Butcher can only be removed using disable.

DawnGuard: If your entry into Windhelm coincides with a vampire raid, the guard will not appear at the corpse. Only onlookers will stand. The guard can be found by wandering around the city. If he is killed in a fight with vampires, load an earlier save.
For those who started completing the quest after the civil war, the passage is buggy, so the optimal sequence of passage is suggested:

The assignment requires you to examine the house for evidence related to the murder. It is important NOT to take the Butcher's diaries until we touch them. We only take leaflets and a strange amulet from the house.
On the street we talk to any soldier we meet, he will give a tip to Viola (leaflets) and Calixto (amulet).
In the "Calixto Museum of Curiosities" we sell the amulet; later it can be taken from the butcher's corpse.
We are looking for Viola (leaflets), talking to her and at her suggestion we go to Kjerim again, looking for the remaining evidence, including the butcher’s diaries (in the chest 1 hour and in the secret room 2 hours)
Based on all the guesses, it turns out that the court magician is the murderer, and with this we go to the palace to Yorleif. We watch how an innocent magician is imprisoned.
After arresting the magician, the quest will be completed. We are leaving the city for a couple of days, we can do some other task in the meantime.
Upon returning, we see a scene of townspeople examining a new corpse. We go to the local prison and talk with the magician, here the second part of the quest begins.
During a conversation with the magician, he shares with us important information about the time and place of the new murder. It will happen at midnight in the stone quarter.
We head towards the indicated place in the late afternoon, this is a market + a blacksmith shop, I think it won’t be difficult to find.
When approaching, be on your guard; as soon as you run up to the forge, Calixto (the butcher) will already be swinging with his weapon drawn.
We see Calixto and his victim, he will attack in front of the vegetable stall, we kill the villain. We search the corpse, take away valuables (amulet).

The plugin slightly changes the course of the quest, but don’t expect that you will sip ale in a tavern surrounded by strong Nord girls, and the maniac himself will come to prison and even put himself in shackles.

Now your Dragonborn, the last hope of the world aka the storm of dragons aka the saint of all Skyrim Churches. - He must. The mod adds a so-called “blind quest” (that is, one that is not displayed in the journal. As in the case of the search for Isabelle Rolen from Winterhold). But when you reach a certain point or the first victim has already been killed, the quest will pop up. You can check whether the quest is active by entering "sqs MS11" in the console. If stage 1 is after you first arrived in the city, everything is ok.

2.Why Unofficial Skyrim Patch?
- Because the original quest is bugged like hell. Some of the shortcomings can completely stop the quest and you will get stuck. The patch fixes them, allowing you to continue the quest. In any case, the quest is not perfect even when patched. So some may encounter certain problems during the quest. (For example, some scripted scenes may not start when they were supposed to). But, again, this is a problem with the quest itself, not the patch.

3.Is it possible to remove the plugin after I have completed the quest?
-I can’t advise because I myself don’t know about possible jambs. I tested it myself and nothing was observed. Trying is not torture. But! Never take it down while you are in the quest stage, otherwise your PC will explode. You have been warned.

  • enter the Hall of the Dead (the door is nearby), talk to the old woman, she will tell you about strange wounds;
  • Leave the Hall of the Dead and follow the trail of blood to find the killer's house.

  • to get into the house you need to either break the lock (master level) or talk to the manager, he will say that this is the house of the deceased, and if you need to get there, contact her mother Tova. We go to the Shattered Shield clan house, talk to Tova, get the key. We go into the house, we find the first diary (in the chest) and the necromancer's amulet (in the far corner of the room under a mountain of sheets), then we find cabinets, a secret room behind them, and there is a second diary;

  • go to the beggar woman, she will say that the killer is a magician;
  • go to the magician ( don't talk to the manager!) in the main building, the magician will say that he is not a murderer, then he will cast a spell and say that today there will be another murder;
  • wait until nightfall, go to the market, witness another crime;
  • kill Cagliosto, remove the key from his corpse;
  • go to the museum, on the second floor you find the third diary;
  • return to Helgird and talk about all the evidence found, the quest is over.

There's no special reward, just an interesting twisted crime. If you imprisoned the magician, it is possible to continue the task, but how is unknown.
