Landing craft on an air cavern Denis Davydov. Landing craft

The High Command of the Navy prepared a report addressed to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu with a request to close the project of the newest airborne landing craft 21820 "Dugong". Navy sailors believe that there were serious design errors in the project. A source in the Navy told Izvestia that the position of the High Command is based on reports from the headquarters of the Caspian Military Flotilla, where one ship is based.

We have “Ataman Platov” in the Caspian Sea, and “Ivan Kartsov” will be launched in the Pacific Ocean. Three more are at shipyards in varying degrees of readiness. As a result of operation, cracks have formed in the stern of the combat boat; the seams of the hull cannot withstand movement at high speed and are coming apart,” an officer from the Commander-in-Chief shared with Izvestia.

According to the sailors, the problems arose due to incorrect design and assembly at the shipyard. The operational load on the housing exceeds the values set in the strength characteristics. In other words, the designers and shipbuilders calculated one resistance indicator, but in reality they came out with another, higher one. Because of this, at high speeds the ship “catches a wave” and is subjected to a strong hydrodynamic shock, which can even break it in half.

An air cavity is a dynamic type of air cushion, where a layer of compressed air under the bottom of a ship arises due to the movement of the ship. This differs from a static air cushion, where a layer of air is pumped by fans. Thanks to the bubble, friction and hydrodynamic resistance are significantly reduced, and the speed increases to 30–50 knots.

The displacement of the Dugong is 280 tons, which is quite a lot for similar ships. In addition to it, the domestic fleet has eight boats of the 11770 Serna series. They are much smaller - displacing about 100 tons - and have earned praise from sailors. One of the Baltic Fleet officers who served on the Serna notes its reliability, speed and seaworthiness.

There are no problems with the boat, except for one small one. It carries one tank or two infantry fighting vehicles, but we would like something more substantial. It’s a pity that the Caspians didn’t like “Dugong,” he told Izvestia.

Both projects were developed by the Nizhny Novgorod Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoils named after Alekseev. In fact, the Dugong is an enlarged Chamois, capable of lifting three tanks or five armored vehicles. Why design mistakes were made in a large boat, sailors are at a loss.

A representative of the military-industrial complex who participated in the projects clarified the situation to Izvestia on condition of anonymity. According to him, problems arose at the production stage. Laid down in 2006, the Ataman Platov was transferred to the fleet only in 2010, although in four years it is possible to build not only a 280-ton boat, but also a cruiser with a displacement of 25 thousand tons. This is how much the domestic flagship “Peter” was built in Soviet times Great,” the source emphasizes.

Administrative and economic confusion is to blame, he says. Platova built the Volga plant in Nizhny Novgorod. The Ivan Kartsov was laid down at the Eastern Shipyard in Vladivostok, although it should have been at the Volga. And the next three boats of the project were laid down at the Yaroslavl Shipyard.

- “Dugongs” must be built at the same production facilities, and jumping across the entire country ruins the project. The Volga is best suited for construction, where it has accumulated extensive experience in hovercraft. And the decision to move production was made for socio-political reasons,” said a representative of the military-industrial complex.

By the time the Ivan Kartsov was laid down in 2010, serious problems with orders had arisen at the Eastern Shipyard, and this is one of the city-forming enterprises of Vladivostok. The country's leadership could not allow social tension in the city, which was preparing for the APEC 2012 summit, so the construction of the boat was moved here. Approximately the same motives were used when transferring production to Yaroslavl, which is less prosperous than Nizhny Novgorod.

The problems of Ataman Platov are well known to the designers. But sailors could take into account that this is the first ship of the project, it has “childhood diseases” that are treated after additional tests. Why immediately cut from the shoulder? After all, the Navy needs Dugongs, says Izvestia’s interlocutor.

Vice-President of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems Konstantin Sivkov agrees with the shipbuilders.

Airborne ships moving at 50 knots (90 km/h) are very difficult to hit before landing. If they are abandoned, then carrying out landing missions will require more massive fire suppression of the defense, and your losses will increase. So we must not abandon the Dugongs, but ensure that they are improved,” the expert told Izvestia.

The first ships with a dynamic support principle were built on static air cushions with powerful fans and enormous fuel consumption. Air-cavity vessels are more economical. In both types, the bottom has special contours to hold a layer of compressed air.

Airborne landing craft. The project was developed by the Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoils named after R.E. Alekseev (Nizhny Novgorod). In 1998, the Central Design Bureau for SPK developed a project for a large high-speed landing boat "Shelf". By 2000, it was planned to complete the development of the boat and create the lead model. The lead boat of the D-105 project was laid down at the Volga Shipyard in Nizhny Novgorod on February 21, 2006, launched in July 2009 and in 2010 accepted into the Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy.

On June 23, 2011, a contract was signed between the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Yaroslavl Shipyard for the production of a series of boats pr.21820. The first production boat "Denis Davydov" (plant No. 701) was laid down on January 18, 2012.

Design
The boat hull is made of corrosion-resistant aluminum-magnesium alloy AMG.

As of the fall of 2012, the lead ship "Ataman Platov" (serial number S-811) reports that as a result of operation, cracks have formed on the ship's hull (in the aft part), and the seams of the hull do not withstand movement at high speed. There is an unconfirmed assumption that these defects are a consequence of the ill-conceived design of the ship.

Landing boats of project 21820 code "Dyugon" (according to NATO codification - Dyugon) are a series of the latest Russian airborne landing boats, the lead ship of the series is the boat - D-105 "Ataman Platov". Currently, it is the only ship built according to this project and is part of the Caspian flotilla. Today, there are 2 more boats of this project under construction - one is being built at Vostochnaya Verf OJSC in Vladivostok, the second at Volga Shipyard OJSC in Nizhny Novgorod. Also in 2011, a contract was signed for the construction of a series of 3 landing boats of Project 21820 at Yaroslavl Shipyard OJSC. The first of three ships of this series was laid down at the YASSZ on January 18, 2012, the ship received the name “Denis Davydov”.

The lead boat of this project was laid down in 2006 and since 2010 has been part of one of the formations of the Caspian flotilla and received the name “Ataman Platov” in honor of the commander of the Great Don Army, whose regiments entered Paris in 1814 and “gave” the French capital a new type of catering establishments - bistro (from the Russian word “quickly”), since the Cossacks in Parisian cafes demanded to be served as quickly as possible. It is worth noting that the landing boats laid down in Yaroslavl will receive the names of heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812, which seems truly relevant in the year of its 200th anniversary. Three boats being built in Yaroslavl will be named Denis Davydov, Lieutenant Rimsky-Korsakov and Midshipman Lermontov. The last two were members of the Marine Guards crew and took part in the 1812 campaign.

The Project 21820 landing craft "Dugong" was developed in Nizhny Novgorod by specialists from the Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoils named after. R. E. Alekseeva. This design bureau specializes in the field of scientific research, design and creation of high-speed ships, vessels and boats with dynamic support principles. The designers and scientists of this design bureau created ekranoplan ships that have no analogues in the world, or as they are also called – “Caspian monsters”. These are the missile "Lun" and the transport-landing "Orlyonok", which were capable of reaching speeds of up to 500 km/h during the main mode of movement. According to projects created at the Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoils named after. R. E. Alekseev produced more than 8,000 hydrofoil ships for both civil and military purposes.

Currently, speed plays an increasingly important role during landing operations. The faster equipment and troops are delivered to the bridgehead, the greater the chance that success in this direction will be developed. The experience that Russian sailors gained while using the Serna landing boats of Project 11770 once again confirmed this axiom. But something else has become obvious: today, even faster ships with greater landing capacity and carrying capacity are required as independent combat units. At the same time, the amphibious and mobile characteristics of the new ships had to correspond to the similar characteristics of Project 11770 boats. These circumstances became the impetus for the creation of a new airborne transport and landing boat, which became the Project 21820 boat “Dugong”.

The total displacement of landing boats on an air cavern of the "Dugong" type is 280 tons, maximum length - 45 meters, maximum width - 8.5 meters, draft - 1.9 meters. The maximum speed is 35 knots at a wave height of 0.75 meters. The ship can also be used in stormy conditions with a wave height of no more than 3.5 meters. Project 21820 landing boats are equipped with two M507A-2D diesel engines with a power of 9,000 hp each. every. The maximum cruising range is 500 nautical miles. The dimensions of the cargo hold are 27x6.8x2.34 meters, the maximum carrying capacity is 140 tons, the landing craft can carry up to 3 MBTs or 5 armored personnel carriers.

In the control system of the landing boat "Dugong", together with the marine information and computing complex MIVK 6P-08B, the GKU-5 gyro direction indicator, the LI2 1 lag and engines that are equipped with tachometers of the TE-204 type, the autopilot "Agat-M3" (development and produced by NPP ANFAS, Saratov). In this case, it is possible to use the modernized autopilot “change 4”.

The landing craft's propulsion and steering complex, which includes a ventilated water-jet propulsion unit, does not protrude beyond the dimensions of the vessel's hull and allows for efficient operation in clogged waters and shallow waters. The crew of the landing ship is 6 people. The landing craft has weapons. As standard, it consists of 2 heavy-caliber 14.5-mm MTPU machine guns, as well as 8 Igla-type MANPADS. At the request of the customer, the composition and configuration of weapons can be changed.

The ships of this project, in particular the only landing craft in service, the Ataman Platov, confirmed their fairly high combat characteristics as part of the Center-2011 strategic maneuvers, which also took place in the Caspian Sea. As part of the exercise, the landing craft quickly delivered armored vehicles and marines to the battlefield and landed them on the unequipped coast.

It is reported that these vessels can be used together with landing helicopter dock ships of the Mistral project, which are being built today for the Russian Navy. Tank-landing boats of projects 11770 "Serna" and 21820 "Dugong" are fully suitable for the Mistrals in terms of their weight and size characteristics. Such boats, together with the Mistral aviation group, are designed to deliver weapons and landing forces of the dock ship to the shore.

Currently, the construction of Project 21820 ships for the needs of the Russian Navy continues. And the Central Clinical Hospital for SPK named after. R. E. Alekseeva continues to work on improving the boats of this project and creating new modifications. All of them differ from each other in their main power plants, layout solutions, propulsors, speed and displacement. But at the same time, all of them are perfectly suited for use in landing operations in enclosed and semi-enclosed seas, bays and archipelagic waters.

As part of the factory sea trials (FST), the crew of the Project 21820 landing boat “Lieutenant Rimsky-Korsakov” fired at sea and air targets and conducted high-speed tests of the main power plant, the press service of the Western Military District reported.
At the sea training grounds of the Baltic Fleet (BF), the crew of the landing boat successfully hit all the designated targets from two naval pedestal 14.5-mm machine gun mounts, which successfully combine the rate of fire of a heavy machine gun with the armor-piercing power of an anti-tank rifle.
Also, the crew of the boat, together with representatives of the factory commissioning team, tested the main power plant, consisting of two M507A-2D diesel engines with a power of 9000 hp each. each, allowing a speed of up to 35 knots.
The landing craft's engines were tested in all operating modes, at minimum and maximum speeds. The boat tested the loading and transportation of BTR-82A armored personnel carriers, which are in service with the Baltic Fleet Marine Corps unit. In the coming days, the crew of the “Lieutenant Rimsky-Korsakov” will have to carry out an amphibious landing afloat and on an unequipped coast.
In early November, the landing boat “Lieutenant Rimsky-Korsakov” will begin state sea trials, after which it will become part of the Baltic Fleet and begin to carry out its intended tasks, the press service of the Western Military District said in a statement.

01.11.2014
State tests of the new Project 21820 landing boat “Denis Davydov” have been completed. The newest landing craft of Project 21820 “Denis Davydov”, built for the Baltic Fleet (BF) at the Yaroslavl Shipyard, has completed state tests at the sea ranges of the Baltic Fleet.
During the tests, representatives of the factory commissioning team, together with the crew of the boat and members of the state acceptance committee, checked the maneuverability and speed characteristics of the boat, the operation of all units, systems and components, navigation and radio equipment, as well as the ship’s weapons.
At the same time, artillery firing was carried out at surface and air targets, and the tasks of loading various wheeled and tracked vehicles afloat and on the coast were worked out.
In the near future, the boat will undergo an inspection, a control opening of the mechanisms and instruments will be carried out, specialists and members of the state commission will assess the general condition of the boat, its equipment and all the equipment available on it.
